The character of Mayor Tony had all the personality of a can of soda or a bad dinner.It wasn't the Mayor of Casterbridge that I wanted to read about, it was his second in command and his deputy, O'Shea. They were both powerful smart and scary. They controlled the mayor's will and were ultimately responsible for his tragic death. They would need some lessons in leadership when their party, the Democratic Party, takes power after the next election.My guess is that O'Shea did not have any decision making authority, but I am surprised that the mayor allowed him to be the head of his campaign staff. That is why he has taken over the job and kept it while the politicians in the City Council tried to run the city. The reason I call them politicians is that they never learn. Even after they are elected, t hey try to keep the job and keep their status. And I bet they all go to a family reunion.I am glad that Mayor Tony did not listen to the Democrats' search for potential candidates who are known and can beat him. He must have a good sense of humor, because none of the candidates was funny. Now if I could only read the essay samples that are available.I thought that the very constant criticism of the mayor for his poor decision making would cause him to lose his self-control. This is the exact opposite of what he learned at the police academy. And then, someone suggested that he get a degree in leadership from a school in Washington D.C.You see, he was able to focus on the issues and not the personal attacks. He knew what he was doing when he suggested the idea to use the leadership school in Washington D.C. So, we can assume that he will make a good president.
